HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR SMALLHOLDERS

Health and safety measures are critical both to protect the smallholder from possible injury and to avoid the occurrence of hazards in fresh produce eaten by consumers caused by, for example, poor personal hygiene. Misuse of chemicals, especially pesticides, can cause serious health problems and is, therefore, of concern to smallholders. It is important to ensure that smallholders are aware of - and are trained to deal with - the health and safety measures, and recommended handling practices for chemicals outlined below:
