HANDLING AND USE OF CHEMICALS (PESTICIDES/ FERTILIZERS)

. Use approved suppliers
. Use only pesticides in a branded container, not a 'market mix'
. Use the most appropriate pesticide - with the least residual and environmental effect
. Check national laws and legislation
. Take care to protect the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment
. Avoid polluting water
. Use protective clothing
. Always follow the manufacturers' instructions
. Make up pesticide to correct dilution for the crop - never diverge from this
. Do not mix two different pesticides together unless the label says it can be done
. Wash the container for applying the pesticide after use
. Do not use pesticides after their expiry date
. Do not apply after the latest time of application or harvest interval for the crop
. Do not apply more than the maximum permitted number of doses
. Always wash hands after using pesticides
. Keep pesticides in a lockable store - sited to avoid pollution and reduce fire hazards (many pesticides are flammable)
. Disposal: (a) Do not allow tank washings to run down the drain or in the river:
  (b) Do not dispose of concentrated pesticides on farm
  (c) Puncture empty containers after use, incinerate if the label allows this
